Comic Creator Club
The Comic Creator Club at our elementary school is a fun and exciting place for fourth grade students who love stories and drawing. In this club, students learn how to make their very own comic books by using both writing and art.
Every week, the members of the Comic Creator Club gather together with pencils, paper, or ipad and lots of imagination. During the one hour club time, they learn how to think of a good idea for a story. They learn how to plan a beginning, middle, and end. They think about the problem their character will face and how it will be solved. The club teaches students that every great comic starts with a creative idea!
Drawing is an important part of the club, too. Students learn how to sketch characters, add details, and show action in each panel. Even if someone thinks they are not the best artist, the club reminds everyone that practice helps you improve.
The Comic Creator Club also helps students become better readers and writers. By creating their own comics, they understand how stories work. They learn how pictures and words work together to tell an exciting adventure.
Most of all, the Comic Creator Club is a place where students can share their ideas and support one another. Everyone’s creativity is important. By the end of the year, many students have made their very own comic book, and they feel proud of what they created.
Chris and Diana run the club together. Chris focuses on the art of drawing comics and Diana focuses on the importance of plot, characters and overall narrative of their stories. Their collaboration in running this club is another testament to how Hero Shack’s team effort is one of the company’s strengths.
The Comic Creator Club shows that with imagination, effort, and teamwork, anyone can become a comic creator!
